Today, after much anticipation, London-based artist Ramona Wolf released their debut single Canada Geese, a gorgeous indie-folk track that is as emotional as it is gripping.
Stylistically, the tune is reminiscent of artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Elliot Smith and Radiohead, but with a clear unique sound that is incredibly captivating; from unusual chord changes to background noises that reflect the story described in the lyrics, there is a very eerie, haunting overall feel to Canada Geese that is difficult to ignore.
“In the storm I remember how when mom was in labour, how it rained down so heavy that I thought that the roof would fall through. And then I was the daughter of all daughters.”

Lyrically, the track seems to explore the difficult reality of authentic gender expression, and the lack of acceptance that can come alongside it. It is truthful, gut-wrenching and, unfortunately, relatable for so many young trans people.
“I knew I’d always be ‘sister’ and never ‘son’. Cursed forever ‘the daughter of all daughters.’”
Wolf’s vocal performance only adds to the tenderness of the lyrics, with a quiet, yet impactful, delivery that is accompanied by an assortment of truly engrossing harmonies.
Canada Geese is a fantastic introduction to Ramona Wolf as an artist. I am already feeling impatient for their next release and I am sure you will be too after checking out this track. Listen to Canada Geese here.
